Types of Diabetes
  • Type 1 diabetes (formerly known also as Insulin Dependent Diabetes). This is an auto immune disorder where the body produces anti-bodies which attack and kill the beta cells. This usually occurs in younger people but can occur at any time. This results in insulin deficiency.
  • Type 2 diabetes (formerly known as Non-insulin Dependent Diabetes). Often ecommendedd by insulin resistance, but many people become deficient in insulin over time as well. This type of diabetes becomes more common in people as they get older and in people who are overweight.
  • Gestational Diabetes. This occurs during pregnancy. This can disappear after the pregnancy but if you have had gestational diabetes there is a greater risk of developing diabetes later in life.
  • Secondary Diabetes. This occurs due to other medical conditions, drugs or surgery.
